Webinar Description and Learning Objectives

Description:
Seeking Safety is an evidence-based practice to help people attain safety from trauma and/or substance abuse. Both trauma and substance abuse are risk factors for suicidality. This webinar will compare and contrast key interventions of safety planning and Seeking Safety and illustrate – through case examples – how to best utilize strategies of each practice to enhance safety and reasons for living in youth and adults at risk.

Skill Level: Intermediate

Learning Objectives:
1.  Examine an evidence-based instrument to create a safety plan for people at risk.
2.  Examine the principles and practice of Seeking Safety to help people attain safety from trauma and/or substance abuse.
3. Develop strategies from each practice to enhance safety and reasons for living in youth and adults at risk.

Target Audience

All healthcare team members.

Continuing Education Credit

To receive a certificate of continuing education, you must electronically sign-in for the session, participate in the entire live internet activity and complete the online evaluation.  You will be able to print your certificate after completing the evaluation.  The evaluation for this session will close two weeks from the date of the webinar.

The IHS Clinical Support Center has been authorized by the American Academy of PAs (AAPA) to award AAPA Category 1 CME credit for activities planned in accordance with AAPA CME Criteria. This activity is designated for 1.0 AAPA Category 1 CME credit. PAs should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation.

Social Workers

As a Jointly Accredited Organization, the Indian Health Service Clinical Support Center is approved to offer social work continuing education by the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) Approved Continuing Education (ACE) program. Organizations, not individual courses, are approved under this program. State and provincial regulatory boards have the final authority to determine whether an individual course may be accepted for continuing education credit.  The IHS Clinical Support Center maintains responsibility for this course. Social workers completing this course receive 1.0 continuing education credit.

Psychologists

Continuing Education (CE) credits for psychologists are provided through the co-sponsorship of the American Psychological Association (APA) Office of Continuing Education in Psychology (CEP) and the IHS Clinical Support Center. The IHS Clinical Support Center maintains responsibility for the content of the program.  Psychologists completing this course receive 1.0 continuing education credit.

Counselors

Many state Counselor boards (including the various types of addiction counselors, mental health counselors, etc.) accept either APA or ASWB approval. See these approvals under Psychologists and Social Workers. Please check with your board to be sure.

Attendance

Participants can select a certificate of attendance, enabling participants to register with licensing boards or associations that have not been preapproved for credits. To apply for credit types not listed above, participants should use the procedure established by the specific organization from which they wish to obtain credit.
